The Union Public Service Commission is India’s central agency authorised to conduct the Civil Services Examination, Engineering Services Examination Combined Medical Services Examination, Combined Defense Services Examination, National Defense Academy Examination, Naval Academy Examination, Special Class Railway Apprentice, Indian Forest Service examination, Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination, Combined Geoscientist and Geologist Examination, and Central Armed Police Forces(Assistant Commandant) Examination.
Educational Qualification: For appearing in civil services exams, a degree of graduation in any stream from any university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) is required. Candidates who have appeared in the qualifying exam and are awaiting results are also eligible to apply, provided they submit the certificate of qualification along with the mark sheet to the UPSC before the main exam.
A candidate applying for IFoS exam must possess a bachelor’s degree in one of the following: animal husbandry and veterinary science, botany, chemistry, geology, mathematics, physics, statistics and zoology, or a bachelors degree in agriculture, forestry or engineering from a recognized university.
The Candidates must possess a Graduation Degree in any field.
Age Criteria:
Candidates should be between 21 years and 32 Years. The upper age limit
prescribed above is relaxed:
a. Up to a maximum of five years if a candidate belongs to a SC or ST.
b. Up to a maximum of three years in the case of candidates belonging to OBC who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates
c. Selection Method: The Selection process include a Preliminary Exam, Mains Exam and a Personality test or an Interview.
Number of Attempts:
A maximum of 6 attempts is permitted to every candidate and 9 to those belonging to Other Backward Classes. There is no restriction on the number of attempts in the case of SC/ST candidates subject to upper age limit for appearing the examination.
